ADD and University Entrance

Sun Apr 6, 08

My son (17) has an IQ of 133 but achieve poor GCSE results (ABCCCDDDDDD). He was misdiagnosed as Dyslexic at 11 and received no support at school as he was able. He and his sister have now been diagnosed as suffering with ADD. He is about to start a course of medication (Ritalin) which may significantly improve his memory/concentration and therefore his academic results. It may be too late for his AS levels to benefit but if there is a vast improvement by the time he takes his A levels, would he be able to apply to competitive universities despite his poor GCSE and possibly poor AS level results? Should he also make reference to this disability in his personal statement or elsewhere on an application?

Course change

Sat Jan 19, 08

Before asking the question, i think it's best to give you some info on my situation.

I'm an international student currently doing A2 year. My UCAS has been sent early September. At that time i didn't think much and then realise that i had made a big mistake regarding my choices.

So far i've received 2 offers from Durham(AAB-Economics&Politics) and Sheffield (BBB-Economics&Social Policy) and rejected by Oxford and LSE. I'm waiting for Warwick(PPE) at the moment.

At the moment i really want to change all my course to Accounting&Finance. I've decided to change my carreer plan after reading many job prospectus and consulting my parents. It's also partly because i've lost interest in Politics&Philosophy. So far i've contacted the relevant departments in those 2 universities by email and waiting for replies.(i'm not really good on telephone)

According to what i've read, i'll probably need to give them a convincing reason for the change and maybe a new PS. Since my first language is not English, i'd really appreciate if you could give me some advice on the reason and PS bit.

Thank you for your time,

Relevance of Personal Development

I would like to know if in your experience, admittance tutors look less favourably on a mature student whose main motivation for pursuing a degree is more weighted towards personal development than a specific career aim.

Personal Satement - Business & Management

Mon Jan 8, 07

I am having trouble starting my UCAS Personal Statement pertaining to the following points:

•Why you have chosen the courses you have listed.

•What interests you about your chosen subject.

I have chosen to study business & management because its something that i've been surrounded by since i was young because my family owns a construction company and i see them at work and i just dream that i, one day, will be doing what they are doing. The problem is that i just dont know how to start the personal statement.

What interests me about business & management is that i would like to learn about how a company works.

Can anybody please help me on this? i need help structuring my personal statement.

Thank you.

ucas statement

Tue Dec 12, 06

hi
how can i start my ucas statement on medicine?
plus how do i show my ambition for being a doctor?....as far as i know...ive always been intrigued by the medical profession..when i used to visit the doctor when i was little....always wondered how it would be like to sit in the doctors place...and for once pull myself out of the patient's shoes...and become in charge!! moreover...i have been to the hospital quite a few times to visit my ill and old auntie...i feel like helping her in someway...want to do something...i guess i want to help people as i am interested in patients as people...but also i find that i also have team analytical skills....am self-motivated, responsible and compassionate...so what else can i say? how should the introduction start...and each paragraph and what they should gained (in an orderly mannner)...moreover are there any good websites avaliable for information on requirements of being a doctor (skills) and helpful information on clinical practise too?

thank you very much...this is by the way going to my first try for writing a statement
