Hi, my name is Michael Lau Yiung Shieng. I am from Malaysia. I am currently studying A levels in UK. I had problems writing the UCAS personal statement. I had chose Dentistry as my major choice and the fifth choice which is complusory not to be the same as the previous fourth choice. I choose pharmacy instead. Here comes the problem, how to write a personal statement which includes dentistry and pharmacy as well? How to link both subjects together? My tutor in my college says that if it is possible to add some critiria about pharmacy into my personal statement. I had written only about dentistry can someone please help me to edit my personal statement?
etutor answers:
In reality this is not a problem, since in choosing Dentistry you are automatically restricted to four choices. Your Personal Statement should focus almost entirely upon Dentistry, with lots of material explaining what attracts you to the course and profession - be as specific as you can about dental treatments, and about any relevant work experience (what you learned from it; how it surprised you, etc). Then, at some suitable point (preferably early on) state that you have a scientific background, and that you particularly enjoy detailed measurement, analysis and problem-solving, and that you value accuracy and precision. That will enable you to say that Pharmacy is a natural alternative to Dentistry - indeed, you don't then need to mention Pharmacy again!
I hope this is helpful. Good luck with your application.
