NobodyElseWill asks:
I am writing my nursing personal statement for nursing and i would like to emphasis that i have had a few years of looking for jobs but without giving them a wrong impression, also I have a learning difficulty should i mention this in my ps and ucas form?
etutor answers:
It is of course essential that you don't give the mpression that nursing is a last resort. Hence your Personal Statement should be dominated by positive reasons why you are applying for a nursing degree. You refer to 'a few years looking for jobs'. If you didn't get any of them, don't mention them. If you did get any of them, put the emphasis, wherever possible, on links with nursing. this will probably be best done by focusing upon skills and personal qualities. Hence, you might make reference to the transferability of any of these to nursing. So the emphasis might be on factors such as stamina and 'stickability', teamwork, energy, enthusiasm, acceptance of responsibility and leadership skills, empathy, flexibility, developing maturity, realism, capacity to work under pressure, practical abilities. etc.
On the question of a learning difficulty, it depends on what is, and whether it really affects your work and capacity for study. If it is minor, I wouldn't mention it. If it's more than this, however, the UCAS form itself has a section where you can explain it. Best of all is if you persuade your referee to include in his/her reference rather than your PS.
I hope this is helpful. Good luck with your application.
