UCAS IB predicted grades

Uploaded by JojoBon | Jun 30, 2008 | UCAS Personal Statements
JojoBon asks:

My name is Yanrong and I am an international student applying to study in the UK. I am applying as an individual through UCAS as my school has less than five students applying to the UK and hence I can not apply through my school. The qualification which I'm working towards is the IB. I've started filling in the online UCAS form and I inputted the 'International Baccalaureate' as my qualification at my current school; also I entered the six subjects which I'm studying for and of course ToK and Extended Essay. However, as I clicked on the 'Reference' page I noticed that there is only a single space for the predicted grade. The space only allowed one to enter up to 5 characters and so it is only for the total predicted IB score. I understand that most universities would wish to see the predicted grade for each of my six subjects... however, there is no space on the page for my referee to enter those. I was wondering how one could fix such a problem.

Thank you very much for your time.

Unfortunately it is difficult to get round this. There is indeed only a single space for the overall IB grade that is predicted. I haven't seen the new UCAS form for the next year, but in the past it was possible to list each of the IB subject components with a predicted grade, followed by the overall IB predicted grade. Perhaps the form online has been altered to render this impossible. If so, the way to do it is to advise your referee to make statements about your strongest subjects in the text of his/her reference, where it is of course perfectly possible (and permissible) to mention predicted top grades.
I hope this is helpful.
